Equity and Diversity Statement

The CMA stands with all BIPOC women, men, children and 2SLGBTQ+ people in their outrage of the dehumanizing racism and discrimination that is entrenched in our society. We acknowledge that racism and other forms of discrimination are a systemic as well as an individual problem that inflicts profound emotional, physical, and psychological injury on our BIPOC communities and individuals. The CMA is committed to examining our role in this system and to educating ourselves and our members about dismantling individual biases, and deconstructing racist and discriminatory beliefs, assumptions, and practices. The road ahead is long, and mistakes will be made, however we firmly believe in the importance of equity for all people and are committed to action. COVID-19 Homebirth Information for Midwives

Salute and Congratulations to all Registered Midwives in Alberta, as we honor you in this year of the Midwife and the Nurse! Special wishes go out to each and every Registered Midwife for Tuesday, May 5, 2020, as we celebrate International Day of the Midwife! You are a small but mighty force in maternity care in this province. Your clients and families benefit from your primary care - Council and Staff at CMA.

This letter to you highlights the public mandate of the CMA: importance of client choice in these unprecedented times. In addition, both NRP and FHS are addressed, by way of staying current in those two areas.

The CMA continues to monitor the pandemic situation carefully and make adjustments as appropriate. As clients of midwifery services, you will remain as safe as possible because the CMA regulates the midwifery profession and supports Registered Midwives in all situations. For clients, please make sure that you review the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics contained on this website, so that you know what Registered Midwives do to provide high quality care.

Protect Yourselves and Others: We all own the responsibility of decreasing the spread of this virus.

CMA Business Continuity Plan: Remote Working

This Tuesday, March 31, 2020 marked the first office day in which our CMA staff are working remotely. CMA is taking these steps to ensure the well-being of our employees, Council, Committees and the community. This decision is due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a matter of public health. For the near future, the CMA office will be virtual, with fully functioning services, and continued communication through phone, email, electronic files and everything else needed for a seamless transition to our remote environment. The CMA expects to operate well this way, continuing to meet the mandate of public protection.

What This Means for our Daily Interactions:

  • The CMA office will be temporarily closed; see below for appropriate contact information.
  • CMA mail box will be checked weekly
  • Courier packages cannot be received at the office; please call to arrange delivery.
